AARON COPLAND: DUO; NED ROREM: BRIGHT MUSIC; LEONARD BERNSTEIN: PIANO TRIO; IRVING FINE: FANTASIA FOR STRING TRIO
A key strand of mid-century America's musical DNA in concert, film, and theater ran through Aaron Copland's studio -- made not only by the "Dean of American Composers,” but also by other pioneering creators who were circling in his orbit. They included such prodigious figures as the iconic Leonard Bernstein, Pulitzer Prize-winner Ned Rorem (born 100 years ago yesterday), and the remarkable but short-lived Irving Fine. A mini-Who’s Who of creative brilliance, they helped lay cornerstones of a 20th-century American musical canon.
Amir Hoshang Farsi, flute; Siwoo Kim and Elizabeth Fayette, violins; Tanner Menees, viola; Alexis Pia Gerlach, cello; Michael Boriskin, piano.
